Daniel Ares is a Cuban-American Comedian living in Queens, NY. He is a gifted comedic writer with a penchant for performing live at any venue that serves alcohol. Daniel is pretty spot-on with his celebrity impersonations which include the likes of; Donald Trump, Pee-wee Herman, The Godfather, Woody Allen, and Howard Stern. He is the creator of “Attorney Bob Sugarman”; a legend who has won 27 out of 27 cases in the 2 months he has been in legal practice. He frocks up well in a pink wig, dress and stilettoes as the industrious and feisty Latina Nail Salon owner, “Chi Chi”. Daniel has performed at various well-known NY venues including Broadway Comedy Club, Dangerfield’s and The Stand. He is currently working on a film with the very mature title; “Mugs in Space”, where thankfully he plays a 1930s gangster and not a cop.  We are chuffed to have him join us for an interview on the very prestigious Pizazz News.

Greetings and salutations Daniel, it’s so great to have you join us! As it is nearing to your voting time, I thought we’d hit that on the head first.

Q
You write about and impersonate politicians like Trump, how would you describe American politics as it stands now?

A

First thank you very much for your time, its an honor to be speaking with you. Unfortunately the political environment is pretty toxic, everyone has become very partisan in their politics and there is no room for dialog anymore, however, there is still a lot of room for comedy and I think that comedy always brings people together.

Here is Daniel doing what he loves best, dishing out politics through character impersonations.

Q
What are some of the differences between Republicans and Democrats and do you think more people will vote this time around?

A
The difference I believe is that the Democrats seem to have the right policies for the people they always seem to champion (the poor and middle class). They’re just terrible about getting out their message. The Republicans use to be a party of fiscal responsibility and moral values (whatever that means.) Now they have abandoned all of that and have become the party of Trump, which is looking more like a fascist administration with autocratic ambitions. At the end of the day the American people hold their fate in their hands through their vote. The buck stops with us so I certainly hope we do vote.

Q

Congratulations on your role in this new film, “Mugs in Space”,  tell us all about it.

A

Thank you! Its my first movie and its takes place in the 1930’s in an alternate universe where Aliens take over New York City and are fighting a human resistance. I play the main villain, Stickpin Harry, a 1930’s gangster who makes a deal with the Aliens to control New York, helping the Aliens stomp out the resistance in return for my own personal power and gain. I am very excited to be playing this role.

Q
This is you in various characters in your first episode of the sketch comedy “Cloud Nueve Comedy”. How did this come about and who wrote it?

Cloud Nueve Comedy, Episode 1

A
Well its always been my passion to start a sketch group. I came up with “Cloud Nueve Comedy” to have more of a diverse cast of comics. I write and direct all the skits for now. The characters are people I grew up with in the great melting pot of Queens N.Y. I was fortunate enough to come across a lot of interesting people in my life that inspired me to create these characters

Q
I quite like your take on the Godfather as a cross-dressing/light B & D enthusiast; is this a role you are going to reprise any time soon?

A
Yes absolutely! Its always a great laugh to see a tough mob boss enjoying wearing fishnet stockings on the side. It completely contradicts the Don Mob boss image!

Nothing promotes leadership like a man hell bent on creating a great first impression.

Q
Bob Sugarman, Attorney at Law; pursuer of natural justice. Will we be seeing more of him?

Bob Sugarman Attorney at Law

A
As long as there are ambulance chasing lawyer commercials out there, there will always be a place for Sugarman. He is one of my favorite characters, everyone has experienced a Bob Sugarman once in their lifetime, especially if you’ve lived in NYC.

Q
Nicely worded legal shenanigans;

“He did sign the birth certificate so he claims liability that he is the father and the court of law says so, not me,”

but it was the Dick Chucks that really got me.
Who thought of the Dick chucks, was it you or Laz?

A
It was me unfortunately – and that won’t be the last time we have the Dick Chucks in our skits. Its a very sexy but dangerous weapon. I’ll never forget when my wife found it in the trunk of my car. I didn’t make things any better when I said “honey, don’t worry – that’s not for you”.

Obviously it had been used a great deal – it effortlessly detached from the chain.

Q
This is a sketch where you are a Stand-Up and your brother, played by Laz Rivero, is trying to get you off the stage and convince you to get a ‘real job’. The struggle is real though isn’t it?

New York Comedy Slam | Daniel Ares & Laz Rivero | Stand-Up Comedy Reel

A
Its very much real. As a comic we all have the enthusiasm and anxiety of being up on stage and telling our jokes, hoping we’re killing. It can all go wrong with one joke and in this guys case it was more than once. It was his whole act with his own brother as the heckler. Every Comic has a bad night but it’s part of the life, its the process we have to go through to get better. Like anything else you learn from your mistakes and you get better.

Q
What shows have you got coming up and will you be doing impersonations?

A
I’m performing shows all through this month and a very important one on November 11th at Broadway Comedy Club. Its a competition and I want to win. I’m going to bring all my impersonations out. Especially my Michael Caine impersonation of him giving me tips for me and my wife in bed. You’ll see it soon. Also, I will be coming out with more skits for Cloud Nueve Comedy.

Q
Have you ever considered doing a Stand-Up routine with your character Bob Sugarman?

A
Sugarman is so much fun to play that I may even make a musical out of him one day. Definitely a one man show in the near future. Even though he’s kind of a slime ball he has a certain charm about him that I think people find appealing. So, yes, the Sugarman show will be in the making in the near future.

Endlessly hysterical, can’t wait to see more Sugarman shenanigans.

Q
Reymundo – the Latin Lover, what happened to him? Where did he go?

“REYMUNDO THE LATIN LOVER”

A
Reymundo was a skit I came up with my best friend, its been retired but you can still find it on YouTube. We may surprise you with a guest appearance of the Latin Lover. The story with him is he’s on the run now from so many upset husbands.

I bet they are upset – he looks like the type that would drink all their beer and not change the bed sheets. Filth!

Q
Can you tell us if you are working on any new characters and what they might be?

A
A bunch, but if I had to pick one that I really like it’s the Puerto Rican Jesus who goes door to door collecting money for your absence in Sunday Church. We are working on that one now.

Q
Finish this sentence, if I could be any of my characters I would be …  a flawed low self esteem, clumsy clod, who’s always making mistakes but he’s very loving. He just can’t seem to get a hold of his children. I haven’t written that one yet but it shall be done.

Thanks for an awesome interview Daniel, many, many blessings, and I can’t wait to see what/who you come up with next!
