Regan Tucker is literally an Aussie COWBOY. He is a post-modern Country Crooner who has done Australia proud by climbing up the US Independent Radio Stations Country Charts with his album, ‘The River’. The ABC called him the ‘Singing Farmer’ when they covered the plight of farmers in Tasmania and we here at Pizazz News think he is as integrated in modern life as the fancy lads who get their beards delicately trimmed at the barbers. Regan is very much a part of a new generation of Modern Country music.

Q
When did you first decide and/or realise that you wanted to be a Country Singer/Cowboy?

A
I decided to be a Country Singer at age 5. I was singing with my dad on the farm which I grew up in. Music is strong in my blood.

Q
What instruments do you play and when did you first start learning to play a musical instrument?

A
I am good on a Harmonica. I sing Lead Vocals in my five-piece band with Harmonica breaks. My Backing Band – The Tradesmen, I play Rhythm Acoustics on guitar. I picked up guitar only two years ago. I started playing Harmonica with my brother Lance Tucker at age 16.

Q
Do you remember the first song you wrote?

A
The first song I wrote was called ‘Stone Cold Country Boy’. ‘Stone Cold Country Boy’ became Hit Number 1 on Independent Music Network of America for 4 consecutive weeks. My third album is named after that song and it is one of the singles featured on that album.

Q
Elvis Presley is an iconic figure – he ruled both Country and Rock n Roll. What are your views about him as a musician? What other artists have managed to cross genres successfully?

A

Elvis Presley is one of my role models. I believe he sang with his heart. Only a few people are born to sing. He was truly one of a kind.

Q

What ‘Rock’ songs have you covered on your albums and how do you give something a ‘Country’ edge which is an entirely different genre?

A
I do ‘You May Be Right’ – a Rock song by Billy Joel. I sang it with a Country Rock vibe and twisted the words on a dime.

Q
You have released 3 albums – The River, The Big One and Stone Cold Country Boy; which albums are you the most happiest with?

A
Stone Cold Country Boy is my latest album and has five of my original songs on it – it is my favourite album. I am also working on a new album due for release in February 2018 which has 8 of my original songs and some covers.

Q
What is that song on your new album, The Big One, ‘Honky Tonk Man’ about?

A
Honky Tonk Man is a cover song I did of the original by Dwight Yoakam. It’s a laid back American song about a hard drinking Cowboy who likes to dance. 🙂

Q
Every artist has an inner critic – what does yours tell you and how do you overcome it?

A
My inner critic – I’m a shy Cowboy but I sing with my heart. I am very confident within my voice and it always feels better for me after I have performed. It’s my favourite thing to do but I’m shy.

Q
You are not just a recording artist but you also perform live. What countries have you performed in and where would you like to be able to perform next?

A
Yes – I perform live a lot. I’ve sang all over New Zealand and in Tasmania Australia. I’m performing next in Tasmania at the end of September 2017.

Q
What is the most peculiar thing that has happened to you at a gig?

A
I have had a lot of peculiar things happen at gigs but its mainly drunk people trying to say hi and try to sing with me.

Q
How does city life differ to country life?

A
City life is a lot harder than Country life – it’s so busy. In the Country I love to sing loud but in the city I cannot.

Q
What piece of advice can you give to other aspiring musicians and/or artists – particularly in regards to dealing with critics?

A

My advice to other artists is that you will fail 10 times before you succeed in anything so never give up. Believe in what you do.

Q

Finish this sentence – If I couldn’t be a Country Singer/Cowboy I would…. go back to farming and dream of singing again.
